The Solo Midland traveller’s circuit sponsored by Speed Sails was quite closely fought at the sharp end this year in a season that saw more than its fair share of fickle winds. Stuart Hydon and Neil Wilkinson took most of the line honours with Stuart putting in a dominant performance to take the overall series win.
First veteran was David Liddington putting in a stirling performance for the older generation in third place overall. Eleven ladies and several youngsters took part in the series showing the Solo to be suitable for both sexes and all ages. First Lady qualifier was Hannah Showell in sixth overall and first youth was David Lynch in thirteenth boat from last year that clearly still knows its way around the race course.
131 competitors took part across the 12 event series with 11 helms qualifying. It would be good to see a similar or better turn out next year with an increased number of qualifiers looking to challenge Stuart and Neil.
The Solo class association would like to thank Speed Sails for their support by providing prizes for the winners of the Midland circuit this year and their continued support next year.

Speed Sails finished 2nd at the Solo inlands held at Rutland sailing club.
We were using the Speed radial design the same cut as our sailmaker used at the National Championships at Felpham to finish 3rd.
Great racing was had by all with a steady force 3 on Saturday and a force 4 on Sunday, we also helped out on the Friday with doing some coaching for the Solo association, every year the association put on training for class members.
In 2 weeks time we will be taking part in the end of season event held at Draycote Water. we will be sailing with the NEW Aeroweb design, so if your around please go and have a look I'm sure there will be plenty of interest as it's nothing that has ever been seen in the Solo class before!

The GP14 Inland Championships were held at Bassenthwaite Sailing Club and they put on a great show with good sailing and an excellent saturday night.
Our Sailors domminated the GP14 inlands with a 2,2,1,1. They showed excellent pace through out all conditions. Our Sailors have been trailing the Aeroweb design earlier on in the season and managed to finish 3rd at the National Championships at Abersoch. Shane & Andy were also using Aeroweb at the inlands and finished 5th.
Speed Sails Took four of the top 6 places.

Speed Sails, using Maxx04 Speed sails finished 1st and 2nd at the Phantom Nationals. In the closest of finishes Nick sailed a great last day to do enough to win the event on count back from Jem and Charlie Cumbley all tied on 17 points.
Speed 1 used a standard Maxx04 mainsail, the same design that Speed 2 used to win the Nationals in 2008 and improved each day to clinch the title on the last gybe mark of the last race. Speed 2 was using our new flatter sail on the new Selden skinny mast. He showed impressive pace in the first two races and then put the brakes on with an OCS and a few average tactical decisions.
We’re currently working on an Aeroweb sail for Speed 2 to test to destruction over the Winter.
