Speed Sails are the most successful UK sailmakers in the Optimist fleet and have a long association with the class. Through the 1980's Speed won an unprecedented 5 UK National Championships in succession and since then, following the introduction of the F1+ and F2 sails, have also won the European Championships, World Selection Series and Inland Championships.
In 2006 two new radial designs, the FX and FX+ were launched and became an immediate success helping to send Jonathan House to the World Championships
The current Speed design is continuing this success both in Europe where they are winning 100 boat + regattas and on the local scene as well. Speed Sails work closely with Optimist sailors of all levels to help ensure the sails provide the best possible performance for each individual. Anyone wishing to contribute their own feedback and work with us to develop even faster sails should contact us via this website.
SAILS:
F1: Sailors up to 40kg
F1+: Sailors over 40kg
F2: Sailors heavier than 45kg
Speed offer three crosscut and two radial mainsail cuts to cater for the different weights of Optimist helms. The F1 is the standard Optimist sail. The F1+ is slightly fuller in the bottom of the sail to provide more power in medium conditions for the slightly heavier sailor. The F2 provides a more powerful sail for the heavier helms without compromising on pointing ability. The FX is the equivalent radial design of the F1 while the FX+ is a careful balance between the F1+ and F2 cuts.
Mainsail: 140B HTP Dimension Polyant; Sail comes complete with battens, sailbag, sail numbers, class association button and Speed Sails tuning guide.
