Martin took part in the Optimist spring championships at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy this weekend. 208 sailors from all over Britain and abroad took part. 4 races were sailed over two days at WPNSA Martin finished 9th overall. Wind was fluky and the results were up and down it was felt that it was a bit of a lottery.
He was happy having done his first competion in the LaserPerformance Vapor sponsored by Speed Sails. He also beat the Vice Champion of France Victor Migraine which as he's a French national (He also has a British Passport! Dual nationality) he was very pleased, Victor commented that Martin was very quick. He said "Tu est vraiment vite." (You are really quick). The last race saw Martin in a tacking duel with Max Clapp who won the event. Martin won it to finish 2nd and had many a cheer from the rest of the fleet and a mention from Alan Williams in the debrief. Arran Holman told me as they came ashore 'he is the man in a tacking duel!'
Martins next event is the World and European team selection trials in Pwllheli.
